Cheap Comfortable Couches
A couch is among the most prominent pieces of a room, so it's important that it's durable, stylish, and comfortable. Finding a sofa that has all three qualities isn't easy if your budget is limited.
We talked to two interior designers to help us choose the most comfortable sofas that are affordable and will last for years.

1. IKEA Sofa
If you're looking for a low-profile couch that still feels solid and robust, this option is a great choice. It's so comfortable and plush that you could imagine your entire family reclining on it. (It even comes in an Armchair version). The sofa is also compatible with many different styles of interiors and looks great with just about any colour of leather or fabric (though should you want something more bold you can always put on an elegant cover from Comfort Works).
The sofa isn't as flashy and modern as some of IKEA's other choices, but it's got a classy look that rivals some more upmarket competitors. Its low banana-shaped arms and ample cushions give it an appearance that's both traditional and stylish. It's also very cost-effective, and is available in fabric and leather upholstery options.
What I like best about the IKEA Website:
IKEA provides a lot of information on their homepage. I find this to be extremely helpful. Prices and names appear right up front. They also provide dimensions to aid in determining whether the furniture is suitable for your space. The construction and materials are also explained clearly, which is an added benefit. They make use of a mix of solid wood, plywood and particleboard in many of their frames, which helps keep costs down while maintaining strength. They also specify whether the cushion filling is foam or feathers, which can really impact the firmness of a sofa. I'd like to see them go a little more in the direction of a breakdown of how the individual pieces are constructed, however they do a great job overall.
2. World Market Brynn Feather-Filled Loveseat
World Market's online presence has a global bazaar feel that can be a bit overwhelming. It's a lot of visual stimulation and information to process, especially when you're focused on finding a new sofa.
Thankfully the website makes it easy to zoom in on furniture with an exclusive "Furniture" section on the top navigation bar that directs you to couches. You can then filter by style, color, and upholstery material.
Many World Market sofas are made with high-performance fabrics that resist stains, which is great for families with pets or children. The company also does a fantastic job of offering a variety of cushion comforts (foam as opposed to. fiberfill, for example) to suit any taste and budget.
One important thing to be aware of is that most World Market sofas require assembly. This could be a positive or bad thing, depending on your skill level. On the other hand the website of the brand showcases each sofa from multiple angles and in close-ups of the details such as legs and stitching. You can see how the couch will appear in your home before you make a purchase. The website is also transparent in its display of the delivery details. It will let you know the time frame for your sofa to be delivered to your home. In-stock items are usually shipped within a few business days. You can also opt to pick up the item at your local store should you wish to receive it quicker. The website also accepts major credit cards, however it does not offer financing options from third parties like Affirm or Klarna. This could be a problem for those who wish to spread their payments, but keep an eye out for promotions from the company that could include no or deferred interest for a specific period of time.
3. Sofas & Couches is available in a khaki-green hue and is described by Good Housekeeping as a "truly outstanding duplicate" of 'the cloud couch. It's simple to put together and comes with deep seating. It's also a budget-friendly option. If you opt for cushions that don't have foam cores, bear in mind that they could shrink over time. Morse suggests looking for cushions with feathers or fiber wrapped around a foam core.
Pro feather/feather fillings are supple and provide a luxurious feeling. They also breathe and regulate temperature. The downside is that they are costly and may trigger allergies in certain people. Additionally, they may require frequent fluffing to maintain their shape.
4. Maxwell Ryan Co-Created Loveseat
A sofa is the place where you spend the majority of your time on Netflix and is usually one of the pricier pieces of furniture in your home. It's worth it to invest in a sofa that you like and can afford.
Burrow, which was founded by Apartment Therapy founder Maxwell Ryan with the backing of the prestigious accelerator Y Combinator aims to become the Ikea of folding sofas. The company offers three different models of the sofa (a loveseat one, a chair and a sectional). The design is similar to traditional European designs, but is more contemporary and minimalist, because of the slimmer frame rails and tapered spool legs.
The most important selling feature is that it folds flat for storage. The real game changer is that, unlike most furniture that folds, this can be assembled by one person without tools in just 20 minutes. Burrow wants you to be aware that if you purchase their sofa it will be able to fit in your space and last 10 or 20 years. This is a major improvement over the Ikea disposable model.
5. Goop Sofa
Gwyneth's modern lifestyle brand, goop, is expanding its reach with a new furniture collection. The actress's collaboration with CB2 includes kitchenware and furnishings that combine the elegant aesthetics of Paltrow's sleek home together with the North American retailer’s millennial-focused design approach.
The collection, which was launched on the goop site today, includes a variety of fashionable and affordable sofas and loveseats. The Goop sofa is among the most striking pieces. It has a contemporary design and white boucle upholstery that will make any living space look more elegant and neutral. The fabric is durable and has a high rub rate, meaning it's more resistant to wear and tear and will maintain its good looks over time.
As for firmness, the collection has couches with medium and soft levels of support. Goop couches fall in this category. It provides plenty of comfort and encourages a healthy posture. The seat height and cushion filling help ensure that the sofa is supportive without sagging over time.
The goop collection offers several modular sectionals that can be combined in any manner to fit into any space. One of the most versatile options is a tuxedo-style couch which is available in white or black and includes three seats and two tables. This is a great choice for families because it can be used by a large number of people without appearing overcrowded. Another popular option is a mid-century modern look that's elegant and casual, with a clean silhouette and a wood frame that is sustainable.
